Re: Exhaust Heat wrap
I'm very glad I found this post..... I had to have replace my turbos (4BT's/28' FBC) because I used the factory wet elbows and over time salt water rusted the exhaust housing horribly...anyhow I bought 316L stainless tube and created my own dry exhaust that utilized all of the engine room height bef...

I too have a 76 28' FBC and upgraded to larger rudders. They are the BEST! I can troll on one motor easily! If you go with the 31 rudder, the post is different. On the 28 the rudder arm go below the rudder shelf, but the 31's the arm goes above the rudder shelf and are not interchangeable. My rudder...

Cummins 4BT Turbo Upgrade Question
Does anyone know the exhaust housing volume for the 150 HP Cummins 4BT. I have checked for air pressure leaks on the intake side and found none. I'm only making about 5 psi of boost at 2000-2100 RPM. I would like to get 10 PSI of boost at the same RPM. The reason for the needed boost is that when lo...

Frank, I was sorry to see the problems you had. I just turned 250 hours on the 4bt's I rebuilt and did the valve lash adjustment myself. I was very concerned that I may screw it up and drop a cable too. Luckily I have put about ten hours on the motors since and everything is fine. How is your projec...

I am in the process of redoing the interior of my 28 FBC. I have gotten rid of the large closet just behind the v-birth and relocated a large top opening refrigerator there. My only concern with the batteries mounted at the bottom of the bilge is that if you have that small compartment flood to the top of the battery, with salt water. The batteries will short, the engine will stop running, the bilge pump(s) stop and your two way radio would be dead. If the batteries are...

Kevin,
I agree with Charlie J, take the four strut bolts out and drop the struts. Thats what I did and then VERY carefully used a saws all to cut nearly through the old cutlass bearings. I then collapsed the cutlass bearing and out they came. Took me about an hour total.
