Re: propellers for a new user
I'd prop for a cruise of around 24 at 3000, if it will still reach max rpm. Its real tough to push that hull at much more than about 24 or so in the typical small but close chop of the GOM during the run out. The most frequently spoken sentence from my crew on the way out is "Hey Idiot, slow the F d...

Re: Strut Q
B28's have a different strut pad set up, relative to the B31. Essentially, there is no need for the addition of a plywood strut pad in the B28. That was addressed at the factory with the pad already glassed in place. Alignment - as in minor adjustments - is not really that big of a deal. First time ...

Re: Fuel Transfer Pump Q?
I'm using a Carter vane style auto pump. Specs are that it will free flow something like 70 to 75 gph. I forget the spec exactly. Seems like about 20 to 25 minutes to move 25 gallons. I've never measured it. I'm not familiar with pumps than move only 6-15 gph. A regular chevy 350 will eat around 10 ...

Don't know what you mean by tolerable time, but I transfer fuel from my secondary tank into my main tank with a cheap 12v. auto unit. The first one I bought lasted basically 14 years. I was looking for a mid-sized truck recently. I was dumbfounded to learn that they cost just as much and get basically the same gas mileage. Its likely some sort of algae/sludge. I had it, albeit to a far lesser extend, when I changed my on engine filters. Bunch of it in the filter itself, and a smaller bit on the housing. I forget what I cleaned it off with, but it was likely alcohol, diesel, or CX. Underneath it, there were indications...

Quick follow up. Ended up having an air leak. Small cut/hole in a fuel hose near the engine. With the cut/hole, never could pump all the air out because it would simply draw in more air. Round and round, round and round, and then when I was preparing to simply scuttle the vessel at the dock, I found...

So, ran one engine dry. Long story, basically fuel theft discovered when the engine died. Literally, ran completely out of fuel. When we had the Bertram Factory boys down in Panama, the story to me went like this in summary: 1. We can't make a B31 today and sell it. Cruise at 23 knots/2800 rpms, and burn only 7 GPH (that is for both engines - all in).
Are people really getting 3.29 knots per gallon running at 23 knots? I'm not getting anything close to that. I get about half that.
