Re: Replacing GPS and Sonar
I decided to go with a pair of Garmins 742XS and then a 742 networked together. They'll be flush mounted and I can add the radar if I want down the road. I've got a a pair of 454s so it's not a canyon boat, I shore fishing and family fun trips. I won't need an auto pilot or night vision. And I'm goi...

Replacing GPS and Sonar
Hey guys hope all is well. Been so busy these days with the kids haven't had much time to post but I do keep up reading along. In any case old electronics are shot. I want to flush mount on either side of the dash which restricts me to 7" displays. Thinking about a new pair of Raymrine Axiom 7s. Any...

I don't like the hull truth for the same reason I generally don't hang around the dock when I take the boat somewhere. Generally everyone is smarter then you are, they have more money then you do and all they want to do is tell you why. Often after having consumed to much alcohol. We all see inexper...

Peter, I was able to squeeze a 9inch simrad nss somewhat flush and not protruding above the top edge of the original top edge (where the plexiglass is mounted). Peter What ever you do, make sure you have a hand held GPS as back up along with paper charts. The combo units are great until something quits on them. Garmin are nice units but it is still hard to beat during. If you can get by with a notepad, that should work fine. Really, once you set up to drif...

Marine Electronics
So I am starting to plan out my Winter/Spring project. I need to update the electronics on the boat; GPS, Sounder, add radar, VHF and stereo. Walk through Time Square at night
Go to the observation deck of the Empire State Building
Intrepid Museum (aircraft carrier on the west side)
Plenty of others but those are pretty cool for a 13 year old

I'm sure you've looked at the thread where I copied Bob Lico's design. It's a great layout, it could be done with a double wide or bench seat as well. You could also center a double wide seat which allows "shimmying" around either side. As I see it my two seats are great but having the two kids up t...

I have the larger ACR bag, I put it up on the bridge with me. Thankfully I've never needed it but my thought is that when I need it I want it in a spot where it will freely float off the boat. In the worst scenario nobody has a chance to grab it or take it out, IMO the only two places that allow thi...
