I HAVE FOUND A BRILLIANT SOLUTION TO THE DEBATE, outboards mounted midship. Of course they'd need to be OXE diesel outboards. https://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/cec01b6067e6a621611069b751341797d19f809f/c=0-218-4288-2630/local/-/media/2016/07/03/MarcoIsland/B9322782551Z.1_20160703073543_000_GS3ES254I.1...

Re: 1969 31 FBC Getting ready for the 50th season

The panels in the companionway below the engine boxes were covered in laminate similar to the interior. They have faded tremendously and there seems to be a clear coat over the top that has dried up and is flaking off. At this point I'm not worried of the lack of "prettyness" but the flaking is some...

Re: a new season begins

I have the boat pulled every spring, they power wash and scape the bottom. The water is brackish so it’s not bad. But honestly my 12 month slip is under $1000. I’m guessing the average guy pays 10k for summer dockage and winter storage. After 10 years I save $90k. If there’s last damage I’ll buy ano...

Re: 46mph Bertram 31 !

Captions I agree it works. My question becomes what do you give up and what do you add? Performance aside. The outboard you lose that clean transom for fishing or even easy boarding and maneuvering. So then what do you gain by freeing up the space where the inboards are? In the case of this boat you...

Re: 46mph Bertram 31 !

The trend vs my needs often conflict. That I guess is apparent by the fact that many of us own a 50 year old boat that hasn't been made in 25 years. Every other boat I've owned has been an outboard besides the bertram and most were center consoles. I'm a fisherman first but use the boat for lots of ...

The wiring, deck and canvas/cushion projects were all in the works before the motor went south. The cushions are purely to keep the family smiling. The boat is currently at the yard having the starboard motor replaced, almost finished. Bottom paint, zincs etc and I'll be ready to go. Over the winter we pulled the teak deck, the center section is currently out of the boat, replacing the plywood core and fixing my rotted hatch lips. Also pulled o...

Random thought. Have you seen the older 23' Regulators? The splash well is very narrow transom - forward, guessing 12". Similar to Capt Boners boat. They use a a double piano hinged splash door that you keep up when out on the water, you fold it down when you want to tilt up the motor. Would seem to...
