Guy's Not only are there ugly boats but the safety factor comes into play, the uglier they are the less sea worthy they become. I surveyed a 45 Maxium motor yacht a while back, this thing was butt ugly to look at. The mechanic and I were the only ones on board, he stepped into the cockpit and the b...

Bad news for this guy and I don't know the answer. Unfortunately many others could "accidentally target" blue fin with their nets and call it by-catch which wouldn't be a good thing, assuming you agree that this method being illegal is a good thing. What was he supposed to do? Report it and hand it ...

Charlie, that would be the best case scenario if they are late. I would think more likely the earlier migrating fish passed us by and we are just getting the tail end of it. I guess that's the pessimistic outlook. In any case just a fishermans guess, no facts involved on my end. I don't understand t...

I threw them back ;( Caught a few smaller fish 20lbs earlier, should have kept one of them. I like to let the big ole ones live another day. Plus I think the smaller ones are better eating. Any normal day the 20lber is the big fish. Did I just complain about not catching small enough fish? My runnin...

Walter, I'll gladly take Carter out to montauk and pray to the fishing gods before every trip if this is the result. My buddy Tom in the photo is 6'8" BTW. I've been out on more fishing trips wi...

I was on that carver Carl posted a link too. Didn't leave the dock just walked on after being tied up next to them for the day. As ugly as they may be man they've got a lot of creature comforts. In my neck of the woods many boats make the 3-4 mile trip across the bay to fire island for a weekend of ...

I heard this too but no further details. Were they navigating the inlet or fishing the breakwaters? The front of the inlet is a giant sandbar and it's pretty common that guys get right into the middle of the breaking waves. It's held bass all year long and you can find a number of guys on nor'east w...

Pete, Thanks for the info. To be clear that one pump is suppling both live wells and the wash down? The normal overflow discharge that runs Under the deck and out the transom is just gravity fed? And the macerators are totally independent? Are the wells permanently mounted to the deck? If so how do ...

Portable Live Well
Hey guys thanks in advance for your comments. I think one of my projects over the winter will be to add a live well to the boat. The boat doesn't currently have a saltwater wash down. I do have a current thru hull for my manual head. Can I tap into that existing fitting or should I have a dedicated ...

Sorry to hijack the thread. Mike is that the model they don't offer any longer? I know the popular ones to talk about are the yanmar 315 or cummins 250. But that little 4 cylinder is probably super efficient requires less modification to the boat and all at a cost savings. Last year I was given a qu...

Volvo IPS props are forward-facing, Cummins/Merc are rearward. I read on the Cummins site that the skeg is designed to shear if it takes a big hit. Ostensibly to reduce repair costs to the pod. Tucking them into tunnels will reduce draft. Call it an engineering experiment...single poddie with thrus...

Another B31 in Babylon
Just noticed another B31 in Babylon on the Carlls river in the marina just north of Babylon Marina (not sure the name of that yard). It doesn't have a hard top or Bimini and the hull is either dark blue or black. It may have been the same boat I saw on Sunday mid day running west along Robert Moses....
