Re: Anchor Size - B25
Thanks Yannis. The Bertram is back in my driveway...neighbors are loving it I'm sure. I've redesigned and fabbed a new "curb" for the center console cap. The old one was way too tall and uneven. Glassing has been almost impossible in this heat. I am on the boat at 5:30am on glass days to beat the he...

Anchor Size - B25
What size anchors are the B25 folks using? I have a Danforth 12H that came with the boat (probably the only part that will be re-used!). The Danforth/Fortress style works very well on the sandy bottoms in North Carolina, but the 12H is going to be too heavy for my first mate (wife). Fortress FX-7 or...

I can't imagine an extra 250 lbs on the transom will make any difference at all to the trim of the boat. That's like adding me and cooler of beer to the boat. A careful check of the transom core is probably in order to ensure it is still solid (I assume they used a plywood core like on the B25s). Yo...

I always lay with the biax up. I find it is easier to wet out and no loose chop to deal with. I end up with hedgerow-like weave grooves as the surface - hot coat with epoxy or fairing compound to fill the weave. Relatively light 80 grit sanding after cure finishes out well.

Will the Azek board hold screws? I might want to use this material for as a backer for some hull liners.

Re: hardtop and flybridge comparison for b25
Worth a try, but I would not consider the sale of the existing running gear as part of my project budget. I had dreams of selling the 1975 Volvos in my boat. I was only able to sell the bare engine blocks for a measly $400, and I had to scrap the outdrives.

I don't think there is much difference other than the flybridge mounted to the hardtop. Might be more fun to make a tower with a second control station rather than grafting a flybridge. Frees you up to be creative with the design.

Based on the pictures, it appears to be a full hull extension. I wish I hadn't seen this...gives me bad ideas. Looks much cleaner, more integrated, than an Armstrong bracket. The problem with the pilot house conversion is you lose the head or the sink area - replaced with the helm station. Might make an interesting "pilot house" style conversion. Cut or unbolt the "roof" and build up a new roof *taller) and cabin wall. Something like this: http://www.steigercraft.com/miami.html

Re: B25 express customization ideas
The express is somewhat "homely" looking...I think the main culprit is the enlarged brow over the front windows, the "hat line" that runs along the roof line, and the extended wings aft. You might be able to cut the entire roof off and graft a FB roof/helm assembly and have an "instant" flybridge mo...

If it were me, I would not use coosa due to the labor required to glass and fair prior to painting (and it's overkill for strength). I would make a sandwich of 2 pieces of smooth FRP wall panel epoxied to a 5lb divinycell core. The smooth FRP will be ready for primer and paint with a simple sanding....

As for weight, I don't think there will be a measurable difference between the resins and a minor difference with the 8 oz chop. I would think that thickened poly would be fine to bond the core to the old skin. I would skip the "milled fibers" as I don't think they serve a purpose in this application. In fact, why not use some construction adhesive and call it a day - West Six 10, or even a poly-based "home depot" adhesive. Y...

Bottom line is you can buy any number of decent running B25s for at or below the cost of a re-power. $25k buys a lot of Bertram!
The numbers are only funny if you've never done it before.
