Re: Bolting Aluminum
The last time I installed new a pick-up in an aluminum tank, I made up an aluminum cover plate of sufficient thickness to allow the pick-up something to thread into, made a gasket to go between the cover plate and the tank, used stainless machine screws fitted into threaded holes in the tank top and...

Re: Hynautic steering help
One of the first things I did was to replace all of the original copper tubing with new lines made up in my shop using bulk nylon tubing and compression fittings. After the first one or two to get the process down pat, the job was a snap; almost fun. Once it was done, I questioned if it was really n...

Standard Horizon GPS Fix
Relative to my ancient Standard Horizon CP150C: When it was turned on for the 2014 season, unit would not progress beyond the "acquiring" stage. It would display the proper time of day, but seemed stuck on a July, 2013 date. Logic dictated that 15 years of use had finally taken its toll and that it ...

Been using John's technique for gasket, water pump and transmission installations for a long time. Don't know how or where I heard about it, but it works a treat. By the way, I just use old bolts and circumcise them with a hacksaw.

Re: Old Fuel Pickup Tube Issue / Old BBS dead ?
I had this maddening problem when an engine would run perfectly with 1/2 tank or more of fuel, below that it would die. Discovered a crack midway along the fuel pick-up tube that was allowing it to suck air when the fuel got below the level of the crack. Changed the pick-up and all was good.

Right. It just happened to me on Friday night with a very reliable Chevy pick-up. Driving along with the temperature rising right to the limit. Luckily I was able to park for the night and get a ride back for another truck. Opening the radiator fill in the AM (still about 8 degrees) showed many ice ...

With all respect I ask what is considered the "toe" of a rudder.
