Peter, after many drinks a bet was made at Pelican Landing in Key West and a scale and 12wt Sage were put to the test. It blew up at 8 lbs. My point being that you do not worry as much about the hook going strait because you cant pull that hard. If you grab the wire and yank, that should be your test.

With a 12 wt fly rod you cant pull harder than 9 lbs or it will snap.

I did it to my Perkens 165. That made them 185 at the time. I got 1 knot sometimes. Russ might know more since he has had the for 4 years in his boat.

I have Globalstar. Works most of the time very well. I have a docking station for it. The hand set sits in it. The hand set alone is ok but dont let one drop of water touch it or its all over. As I always say " ask me how I know".

Over the next two years they are going to make it much harder to keep your captians lic. New CPR and more drug tests at 90$ per. Open book tests and more. Homeland wants less people with lic.

Inside thr radio there are these thing called pots. They are square and have a screw on top that has a color wax coating them. The wax keeps them in a factory setting. By turning the right pots you can boost the radio up a great deal. But it has to be the right pots. Also there is no sending it back...

I like the Standard Horizon. Always works great for me. I had mine kicked up a bit. I have not been nice to mine and they both work all the time, perfect.
