Re: Hole Drilled in My Hull
Thank you all for talking me off the ledge. Sometime, I have unreasonable reactions where the boat is concerned. Yes, it is in the stern. I do not doubt him that there was water in the bilge a,d the batteries had been pulled at that time. But there was a hand pump sitting in the boat just for that p...

Hole Drilled in My Hull
My 1983 Bertram 26 Sport Convertible II was damaged in hurricane Harvey. I have been restoring it ever since, and am just about done. I have a wood guy that does great work on the teak elements in the cockpit. He restored them for me just before the hurricane. He was on the boat doing some repair wo...

Congratulations, Chris. Beautiful boat and great work. I have a 1983 factory outboard version. It’s in the yard now still trying to complete repairs from Harvey damage, but almost done now. Unfortunately, marina was completely destroyed and not yet rebuilt. So, still seeking a safe place to berth he...

Heavier Motors on a B26
I have a 1983 Bertram 26.6 II Sport Convertible factory outboard that I'm about to repower with V6 4 strokes (old ones were 2 strokes). This means about 200 - 220 additional lbs on the stern. The boat has dry weight of about 5100 lbs. I'm looking at Suzuki 225s (old ones were Yamaha 200s). Do y'all ...

Re: Repower for a 26 II Sport Convertible Outboard
Having spoken to some other folks and the local dealer, I think I am going to pass on the new Suzy 200 in line 4. I am leaning towards the Suzy 225 V6. However, I am still concerned about the weight. Obviously, at 1983, my boat well predates 4 strokes in general. It is a reasonably heavy girl at abo...

Do those 4 strokes give you enough torque off the mark? What about power at the top end? Any trouble making sure you have 89 octane gas?

Repower for a 26 II Sport Convertible Outboard
I have a 1983 B26 factory outboard with twin 200hp 2 stroke 2001 Yamahas. I am thinking of repowering sometime in the next year or so. I am looking at the Suzuki inline 4 or a 4 stroke Yamaha. Would appreciate any experience and advice.

Hi All-- I have finally broken down and had my 26.6 Sport Convertible II (outboard) painted. Just a side note. You mention that you will run the boat part time in NC. It happens that I bought my 26 from a guy in NC and had it trucked to Texas. I understand he used it primarily for bottom fishing offshore.

Re: 20 or 26 Bertram opinions
You really can't go wrong with either boat. The biggest difference may be that the 20 is a lot more easily trailer able if that matters to you. That said, I have an original outboard model 26, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. KT will take anything you throw at it. It flies. I can easily run it ...

I probably should have thought about this more before I posted. I think, perhaps, the 261-83 is not part of the required HIN, but something Bertram added. Taking that off, we are left with 12 characters. I think M83K means that it rolled out of the factory in June of 1983. BER is still Bertram. The ...

Hull Number on my 26
My 1983 26 Mk II Sport Convertible (outboard) has Hull No. BERD0405M83K-261-83. I can pretty much figure out that "BER" means Bertram, and the "83" at the end means the year of production (i.e., 1983). But what does the rest of it mean. Thanks.

New Fuel Tank Material
It seems that my 1983 26 Sport Convertible outboard needs a new gas tank. The effects of ethanol and some sort of misguided repair attempt by, it appears, spraying the inside of the tank with gelcoat have done it in.
