Exhaust gas probe location

All right my compadres. I'm getting closer to sea trials and want to add egt sensors to my cummins 4bt project. I want to add egt sensors pre turbo. Is there anywhere you tap the turbo or manifold without striking the water jacket?

If not I was thinking about drilling and tapping turbo housing post turbo on the rear of the housing just before water injector flange. It looks like there is enough metal there.

I'd really prefer pre turbo though.

Install it in the exhaust pipe that bolts to the Turbo......very near the Turbo so that you measure the EGT just as it comes out of the Turbo Charger

Personally, I would not drill and tap my Turbo housing or manifold at all.

The problem is my exhaust pipe is water jacketed. How would I overcome that??

That does present a problem Joe but it is workable.

I see 2 choices, one is, (assuming the pipe is still in good enough shape to accept a weld) make fitting that will accept the EGT Sensor and weld it to and thru the Jacketed pipe. The Fitting will need to be an inch in diameter (or larger) and about a half inch longer than the distance thru the pipes. Then drill a hole thru both pipes, install the newly made fitting and weld in place......look at the attached pic.

The other choice is to make a "Spacer" plate that will fit between the Turbo and the Exhaust pipe......then drill thru the plate "Radially" and install the EGT fitting.....the spacer plate will need to be about 5/8" or 3/4" thick.
