Italian Cruiseliner

Post by Bertramp »

While watching the news with my morning cup of joe, I heard the following comment from the captain of the cruiseliner that went aground (have a seat for this one)

"I didn't even have a life jacket because I had given it to one of the passengers. I was trying to get people to get into the boats in an orderly fashion. Suddenly, since the ship was at a 60 to 70 degree angle, I tripped and I ended up in one of the boats. That's how I found myself there."

you gots to be kidding me !!

Surely you guys are not surprised by his response........when is the last time you heard the truth.....out of a public figure

I'm not sure I would recognize the truth if I heard it......looks like they found their "Wippin Boy"

I was on a cruise 2 yrs ago. The hightlight of the cruise was being a "fly on the wall" as they were leaving port in the Bahamas. There were about 12 people on the bridge, including the captain and the harbor pilot and radars, depthfinders and GPSs up the unowut, all with huge screens.
Not to second guess anyone elses actions, but it seems like someone seriously missed here.

None of those instruments (especially forward scanning sonars) are worth diddle unless someone's looking at them.

I did like the Italian Coast Guard Captain's response! The ship's Captains responses remind me of the ones I get from my 10 year old Stepson when he has done something wrong.

I'm suprised nobody has found the woman that supposedly was dining with him when this was all going on.

When I went on a cruise i took my handheld VHF and soon found the channels to scan to listen to hear the captain & other crew members talking all hours of the night and day. Interesting.
I'm not sure but indecision may or may not be my problem.

Comment made by Winston Churchill:

After his retirement he was cruising the Mediterranean on an Italian
cruise liner and some Italian journalists asked why an ex British
Prime Minister should chose an Italian ship

"There are three things I like about being on an Italian cruise ship"
said Churchill.

"First their cuisine is unsurpassed. Second their service is superb.
And then, in time of emergency, there is none of this nonsense about
women and children first".
