Turbo Diesel Outboard

Post by mikepelham »

Should be an interesting concept. There statistical comparison against gas need to be revised to reflect current fuel prices but still should yield a savings. Thought you may enjoy!

I wonder if they will still produce it given the current economic environment in the marine industry!

Until they post some buy it now prices, can't determine if its cost savings or not.

One reason Yanmar's outboards never caught on was the buy me price.

Speaking of new engine concepts... What happened to the guy who was starting a new company which was going to make a "modular" diesel engine? I think he was located in one of the Carolinas. Has anyone heard about him lately?

I wonder what the noise level would be compared to a 4 stroke gas.

I didn't see a comparison.

The Yanmar natural OB's were as quiet as 4 stroke gas since they were 4 strokes themselves. Hoods were well insulated so you didn't have the clackity sound.

Of course turbo'd you'll have that tell tale whine. No getting around that but they should be quiet.

Although both Cummins and Volvo touted their common rail as mouse fart quiet. Not hardly. Both to me are as noisey if not noisier than old timers.

Ain't heard nothing from Buck diesel. I think he got his patents issued. Tough time for anything marine, even an innovation.

I thought the higher HP four strokes where too much money to be hanging off the back off a boat...
