Location choices for High Power Sending units

Post by John Nardi »

Hi all....I am considering installing a new very hi power sending unit without replacing the current unit that is located behind the original Water tank...Is is OK to place it in front of the water tank or do I run the risk of that part of the boat being out of the water at hi speeds?

Thanks, John

Are you talking about a transducer for a fish finder?

I installed a Airmar 599 LH 3 KW unit in my boat. I had it pocket mounted in the keel Its a nice installation and I expect to catch some sword fish with its assistance.

John

Installing the sender up in the cabin area might put it too far forward. Depending on your speed that is just about where the water breaks.

Let me clarify one thing with you, when you say just behind the water tank, I think you mean just forward of the cabin door. On my boat I have two thru hulls. One is a 3/4 inch pick up for the toilet and the other is 1 1/2 discharge that is really no longer used, for the toilet. I would not have much room there.

That spot might work.

If you mean forward of that area, on the other side of the tank, definitly too far forward.

I always install mine midway in the companion way, never had a problem no matter what speed we are running.
