I actually think about this slightly different - I would look at the original name tags as being a badge of honor. How many boats are around 50+ years and can go out and perform as good if not better than most new boats?

on the flip side, you've put so much work making your rig look amazing, why not get the last minor detail right?

I have no idea on a source of emblems

The thought has occurred to make a mold of them and see about recreating in some way. Plastic sounds lame, but should hold up over time (See Bertram hulls).

Maybe 3D printed and then coated?

There are plastic coatings that look like a decent alternative to chrome. Sprays and dips.

Stainless would be great too!

They are supposed to be stainless pieces now. Danny at High tide is going to replace them with newer, better models. Hopefully they will last a while!

I have been molding plastic parts for very old guitars, this year. Knobs, plates, stuff with good detail.

I thought about casting some molds for Bertram emblems as well. They would never rust.
However, I was not sure how to paint them to provide a shiny chrome finish.
I'll look into seeing if I can chrome over plastic.

Interesting. An oyster white emblem would look good on my boat, or dark blue.

I'll let you know what I think of the quality of the replacements Danny sends to me. He should have received the old, new ones yesterday.

I have dealt with this myself with these and other emblems. They either pit or fade bc they just dont hold up.

I am in the middle of a restoration / resto-rod whatever you want to call it on a 1956 Chevy Pickup Hot Rod. The instrument cluster bezel thing...you know the "triangle" that boarders the gauges was heavily pitted and looked horrible.

In this case I am trying to keep things original BUT I am ok with refinishing my own way. This part was chrome and pitted badly. I sanded it down so the entire thing was smooth and ALL pitting obviously was removed and the chrome was really knocked down a few layers. I primed it with interlux perfection primer and them gave it 2 or 3 coats of perfection black gloss. Then I wet sanded sanded it with 1200 and then 3000 and ended up with a shiny black but slightly more on the flatter side than what Perfection would look like if you did not touch it.

I used perfection simply bc I had some laying around and I really liked the results.

After this long winded response I am basically saying dont be afraid to sand and paint with hight quality 2-part marine paint. You may like the results. Black emblems do look nice.

I believe the flat Bertram emblems can be laser or water cut from 316 stainless. Polishing afterwards.
On my 39 FORD pickup restoration project, I sent the hood emblem/ latch to Pauls Chrome. Found them in Hemmings. Expensive but all pits were filled in and item looks better than new. Worth the expense.

The emblems arrived. They are very beefy compared to the original version, and compared to the 10 year old versions that rusted. Full 1/4" thick. Branded Buck Algonquian, labeled S/S

All the screw holes line up so installation is easy.

Good for you Cam, good luck.

I’m looking all over the place but cannot seem to find the OLD Bertram logo, the one with the capital B and the rest in lower case.
Also the number 28 as it was originally, a bit more calligraphic/ leaning to one side.
If anyone has any lead...thanks.

I haven't seen those. The old, pot-metal emblems in my picture are the originals off my boat - 1963

Cam,

Those are so nice... Did you get the ‘25’ too?

These would make the perfect gift for many a Bertram’s upcoming 60th birthday.

I have new 25 emblems in a box somewhere. They were bought at the same time as the Bertram emblems that rusted, so they are a little thinner than these "mega" emblems. I decide not to be too specific with my labeling on the boat, so I didn't use them.

Let me know if you want them.

Yannis - I'm not sure. It's a cast piece. Give Danny a call. He might have 28s
