Engine hatch hinges

Post by coolair »

Does any one know the make/model of the original hinges? Or have a suggestion on a good replacement ?
Thanks!
Thanks
Matt

Not original but I used "3" locker hatch hinges". Has a removable pin so engine hatches can be removed for engine maintenance. I like them. Got them off of ebay.

The originals were Perko.

The ones Marshall is showing are much nicer.

The only problem I have with those is they are toe killers!

i made a totally concealed hinge system for engine hatches, you purchase regular SS 4" hinges than thru bolt one half to deck the top half is epoxy molded into engine hatch .works perfect for 15 years and if you want to remove engine hatch simply remove hinge pins! PERFECTION

Thanks for info. I do like the hinge with the removable pin, but i will have people on the boat not wearing shoes, so toe killers are out. Bob do you have any pictures?

Sorry for the slow reply. i had a family emergency that came up and had to be taken care of-we ran out of snapper!!

there are many photo`s of my cockpit already on Bertram 31 . the hinges are totaly concealed and very sturdy due to the 4" of each hinge so you have 8" of hinge on each hatch making it three times as stong as OEM. perko.

Matt: I think there are conventional hinges with removable hinge pins that would work. Maybe something like this or larger.

Coolair,

Check with Kevin Meehan on this board, He has a 28 Bert. I gave him 4 sets of original OEM Bertram off my 1961-31 Express a few years ago, He still might have them he was in Marathon Key but I think he moved back to the mainland of Florida last year.

Matt,
Were you able to get ahold of Kevin Meehan about the hinges? I have been laid up since last May with torn Ligaments and tendons in the knee that has been replaced 4 times. just had platelet injections into tendons last week. Haven't been on the water since I sold my 31 Express in 2014. Hopefully I'll be able to get back to boating at the end of this July. Salem harbor is loaded with Strippers up to 40 lbs. Not fun watching from my old back yard in the Willows.

Sorry for the slow reply. just been busy.
Pete I never got a chance to call him. The guys at the yard went a head and grabbed a set of hinges like Marshal is using. We will see how they work out. Man you sure have had hell with your knees. I hope everything gets better soon and you can get back on the water!
Carl, those will make at least 2 meals each!
Thanks
