What are your favorite modifications or upgrades?

Post by SteveM »

I found some rot on a couple bulkheads. Which led me to thinking about pulling the cockpit deck to do it right.
Which led me to thinking it would be nice to have a deck with long fish boxes, live well, etc.

I then got the price list from Cabrera and got carried away tallying up pieces and parts.

I'm now collecting pictures of other boats features that I like with the thought of doing some sprucing up.

Would love to hear from others regarding the question:

What are your favorite modifications, features, or upgrades? And why.

And a 1.5" welded bow rail that will actually hold a mans weight...

Mike,
YES! those are two pet peeves we have.
I fear that when I really need that bow rail for it's intended purpose, it won't hold my weight.
The ladder round bars are another accident waiting to happen with a slip. Plus pulling that thing in and out to open the engine box sucks.

Steve

Either build your own deck or have one custom made. You can do it without too much difficulty and you can use better core material. Not sure if Cabrerra still uses balsa core or not. I would go with something similar to Coosa.

I would have the deck made and a gutter system so the water runs down the edges of the deck and out instead of into the bilge.

U have to decide how original u want to keep her, she’s a freshwater boat that nice. It has value based on her originally. How ever, I’m a big believer in technology would want to make the repairs using technology that will extend the life indefinitely, these / all repairs will be expensive if your not not a carpenter, f/g repair person, Painter ,mechanic, electrian

Marlin,
I'm with ya on keeping it original as much as possible.
The cockpit deck could use fish boxes.
The bowrail can be replicated in shape, but with safer welded joints.
I'd like to find someone to do a good job on the bulkhead rot. That's my first thing to attack right now.
The rest of it can be prettied up with elbow grease.
