I am getting ready to paint topside this year. Have removed all rodholders and old bilge vent. Want to reinforce gunnels, plan A is remove old ply and glass some 1208 or 1408 no sure what is. Then 1/2 coosa blue water 15 then another layer of glass then another layer of coosa and finial layer of glass with 2 more gunnel supports. Or glass 3/4 ply and glass? Trying to beef up gunnels they have taken a beating last 40 years.
There is only one support and I feel that's what gives it all the flex.

Frank,

After you rip out the old plywood, replace it with 3/4" or 1" Coosa Board and add a layer of 1208 or 1708 biaxle. If you can't obtain the Coosa Board, (or similar product), go ahead and use plywood, just make sure it's fully sealed out with epoxy.

Patrick, yes removing old ply some rot around rodholders. I have ply, coosa, glass and epoxy. Was wondering if the coosa will compress too much. Coosa a bunch more work is it worth it? Is one layer of glass enough?

Coosa would be less work from my view point and zero chance for future water damage. Bed it in with thickened epoxy and a single layer of glass should do it. Lap the glass onto both the hull and inside of gunnel, (in essence creating an box channel).

So just glass then coosa bedded in thickened epoxy. No need for more glass? More work was just because it 1/2 want 2 pices right?

Bed the Coosa to the underside of gunnel in thickened epoxy. Glass over the underside of Coosa on to hull and gunnel skirt...

Glue two pieces of 1/2" Coosa with a straight layer of epoxy and cut from now what is 1".
