Idle speed Crusader 454

For those of us without diesels, what is your idle speed in and out of gear ?
It stalled on me while leaving the dock, gave me a warm fuzzy feeling, kinda like peeing in my pants.

On carb engines I always set neutral idle at 750. In gear shouldn't drop more than 50 rpm for 700 with the prop size spun on 31's.

One thing I found with a 700 rpm in gear was the props bit just that much more for manuvering at dock without having to finger the throttles.

Don't set rpm using dash tachs.

440's...I run a bit slower as I usually troll spoons. Always a screwdriver near to tweak a bit...usually going too fast to troll and too slow to be changing direction dockside...wish I could toggle that 1/8 to 1/4 turn on idle speed screw.

In gear, 550-650, I'll be on the low side for trolling, higher side for docking. Luckily with Express your standing on motor box and a tweak takes about 30 sec max...
Before coming into docking area, I'll stop boat and go thru the gears once or twice just to make sure all is well before docking. Sucks stalling on approach in a breeze...not much better without the breeze.
