Glassing in flybridge pilasters and attaching wing steps...

Post by Dug »

I am going to go forward with glassing in the wire chases/flybridge pilasters. That being said I have stumbled on a question.

From those who have done this...

How did you do the glassing, paint and then attach the chromed wing steps. They attach with nuts and washers on the inside, and its simple and easy when the panels on the outside are removable. But if they are not...

Thoughts??? Help? Thanks!

You can glass in aluminum or stainless backing plates then drill and tap for the steps. Once the backing plates are in your good to go with glassing the pilasters in. If your afraid go ahead and put speakers on the inside and you'll have access holes for wiring

JP,

Cool.

Only one question.

The steps I have have 5 attachement points. 3 can be accessed from the outside, but the two that bear the most weight, the top two under the step, are threaded into the step from the inside.

Did you find this to be the case? If so, I may have to do the speaker route, or access hole...

Dug,

Simple. Convert the two top ones to studs....

Dug-
Might G10 be a good option instead of aluminum? It takes a thread well and will not react with a stainless fastener..

Dug,

Dug,

I glassed in .25 thick brass plates and then drill and tapped for 10-32 ss screws mine only had four attachment points from the outside, none on the inside like yours.

I used 5200 when bolting them up....have had sum real porkers stand on them and they aint goin nowhere!!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I honestly am thinking of access hatches at the very least. Speakers might be worthwhile, but I have them close to that location now.

Dead rodent removal is a good option to have always.

Over 300 holes to grind, glass and fair. Its a doozy!
