What's Gerts time frame? I've got a few wooden shoe, drunk ,low moral country men of his working close by. One friend was over there for the holidays and just got back. Let me check with them about travel plans and shipping ideas and I'll get back to you.

I have commercial (i.e. discounted) accounts... If you give me the weight and measurements I can use the quote machines...

Probably the cheapest option would be surface post... That means a slow boat and it will take 4-6 weeks but I have yet to lose a package... Exceptional packaging IS required... I'd pack it in peanuts in a carton... And then I'd pack that carton in another carton... Also with peanuts...

If shipping to Gert is that crazy, maybe have a plug made and ship that, so he can make his own mold.

That would be even more costly, time consuming, and added work for Gert....

yes, but the end result would be an additional mold, that he arguably might want

Shipping costs are a function of mode (surface, air), service type (regular, expedited), weight and measurements... A plug would have roughly the same boxed measurements but would be heavier... So, all other factors being equal, shipping a (heavier) plug would cost more then shipping the product of that plug...

Hey, at least you were trying to be helpful :-)

Bob

I checked with the guys in the mail room at work. They ship overseas all the time. They told me they had to ship a plastic Penguin (Don't ask) to china and that cost the company $600. I told him roughly the size and the estimates he ratled off the top of his head were close to the numbers you had.

I still think you should check to see if Gert has any orders coming out of the US.

The Company I work for had some kind of deal on trying to promote some new image based on that cartoon with all the penguins. Didn't work well.

I regularly ship boxes to Hong Kong---I use Express Mail from US Post office---very dependable and cheaper than the private carriers.

New York to Hong Kong takes about 3-5 days--boxes usually 15-20 lbs---run a $100-150

Does someone have a good method for mounting the half mold to a board in order to hang it on the wall? Or even simply to the wall directly.
I would imagine some type of clip or fitting measured just right so the half mold could slide onto it with enough pressure to keep it in place could work...
But I know this crew is full of engineers so I was hoping someone had figured this out already.
Thanks

Dug, No worries when you get back just pm me your shipping address. Charlie a few still spoken for plus I haven't kept one for myself yet. I'm guessing we should get in the 30-40 range. I will get a few extra and hope to get one all done up for the rendezvous this year, would make a great prize for the raffle. Trip has done a great job considering the mold has a few years on it. Anyone else get one all painted up yet? Or is the Mean Team leader the only one not hibernating this winter?BH

I think 25 is good, and what I would have expected given who donated for the mold. Now if Steve could find out just what he did with the donor list. His wife is probably holding it ransom until he cleans out the freezer down in Florida.
