Post by Sean B »

There is a neat article in this month's Professional Boatbuilder magazine about a British company that made Ray Hunt hulls:

I bet that is where the boat Richard Bertram saw came from.

So old Dick Bertram got beaten to the punch but the Brits never realized what they had.

No Tony, the boat that Dick Bertam saw in the americas cup was Ray Hunt's own 23' custome built by Dyer in the good old USA. After the Deep V was proven, Fairey Marine hired Ray Hunt to design boats for them. First large scale production Deep V was the 31.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but on boatdesign.net, there is a great thread about a guy who brought an old mold for a Hunt 18' back to life.

He went on to layup a hull and build his own deck mold.

Enjoy,

A couple more tease pictures:

Loot at that reverse chine. Notice the gel coat line where the two halfs of the mold come together.

I knew it, the boat in Fig 8 was in the James Bond movie "From Russia with Love". I always thought that was a Hunt hull.

I'm still always blown away when I think of Ray hunt designing the 31 Bertram and the 13 Whaler .......... that's like one step short of inventing fire and the wheel !!

Not too fond of the finished product, but the hull is a great platform.
