Also, to indicate the areas that need additional/final fairing... There are many commercially available guidecoats and marking fluids. They're pretty pricey. Can also do the spray can spray-bomb, but I find that to be a big ol mess. What I like to use is a combination of two things you already have ...

I wouldn't store/transport the flyrods vertically in the cockpit whatsoever. Just asking for damage. I'd try to do something under the gunnels... McNichols.com also has the structural fiberglass as does McMaster Carr. You might also check out fiberglass diamond plate instead of aluminum. It won't be so hot and won't corrode.. Bob, like Robbie said- rolling gelcoat is.... interesting. I thought you had the capabilites to shoot it in a basic conventional gun. If not, I'd choose to brush it as opposed to rolling.
