So with that said, it doesn't sound like anyone on this thread owns an old B20 with I/O.
If you had a lift, would you consider it?

Re: 46mph Bertram 31 !
I've never owned an I/O boat.
What are the issues?
Is it due to them sitting in salt water and not fully out of the water at rest?
Would a boat lift, fresh water flushing, and lubrication solve all this?
A boat like the 20' Sportsman sure is attractive.
How much water does it need (draft)?

I have Yanmar 315's. Numbers similar to Amberjack. They've been good. One reason I went with them over Cummins was because where I boat in the Bahamas there are two Yanmar service centers. It's a PVC type plastic I believe. Won't rot.

I could see setting up a line for when I cross the Gulf Stream and having a Safety Tether on hand.
It is not easy to retrieve something off the side of the boat in the ocean, let alone not have someone dedicated at the helm.

Recommendation for Raw Water Pump rebuild
My Yanmar raw water pumps seem to be notorious for leaking if I let them sit for too long. There is a "lip seal" inside that will dry up and allow for water to weep out, quite rapidly too at times.
