60's VS 70's Hulls

I've owned a 1961 Express for 28 years Hull 186, the earlier hulls were built like tanks, personally I wouldn't have anything built after 1972 (first oil embargo). The hull bottom design was changed, lifting strakes at the bow are different on the early 1960's boats. Capt Pat and I personally measur...

Nice going Ric, putting your time in finally paid off. I was looking for you last week (Tue), stopped by the Marina you were out fishing. I'm in Salem, Ma until it gets too cold. Where were you fishing Jefferies, The Cove or Northwest conner. That fish will pay for the flophouse and a few extras. Co...

Auto Pilot help

Russ, The Autocomp is the flux gate compass, Ceteck control head has a hand-held operating head that plugs into your control unit. You should be able to find a operating head on E-bay or check with HST or Avalon. I can't remember if the drive pump was still attached to the steering ram, if not don't...

Japs have landed in in Llano

Bruce, I spent an hour talking to the rep from Steyr in front of your shop. just before you finalized the deal. I was impressed with the product also, if I keep the boat I would be interested in the repower special. I won't be back until after Thanksgiving, the boat is out at Indiantown Marina for n...

Paul, I'm in Salem for the summer and fall, when is the best time to meet up with you at the boat. I haven't seen any plywood under the fiberglass tanks on the boats I've surveyed, just on the end bulkheads. 30 years of bottom paint hides alot of sins, the sounding hammer should have picked up on th...

Harv,
I've got them on my 1961 express for the footrests, I've been looking for another set for years, with no luck. I think they were made by Wilcox or maybe Perko.

Hull Numbers

Harry,
Call me on my cell @ 561-310-7179 if you want to talk, I've owned an express for 29 years, the hull number you posted is consistant with a mid 60's boat. I've surveyed at least 15 31's.
