Thank you both.. Good info!
I always thought lacquer thinner was one of the more flammable materials in my shop.. I suppose because of it's smell and the fact that it evaporates so quickly.

Corrosion X applicator...?
I have recently purchased some Corrosion X in bulk from Uncle Vic.. I read somewhere (can't remember where.. at my age I have CRS!) a while back that mixed 50/50 with lacquer thinner this makes a great protective coating for the exterior surfaces of engines. I have two questions for those of you who...

If there is a single copy outside his father's control you can bet it will be on the internet sooner or later. I have seen gunshot and knife murders, beatings, and almost anything else you can imagine on the internet. While I often thought he was a flake (ie: holding his baby in front of a hungry ga...

You make a good point.. I assumed that with this issue being so important and so much discussed in sites like this one and the 33 site that most Bertram owners would at least be aware there are several problems with ethanol gas. I have felt from the beginning that this whole issue would be pretty mu...

I mentioned 6 months because as I recall I first began to see posts and maybe even an article occasionally on the ethanol damage concerns around that time, although it seems by then the guys in the LI Sound/NJ area had been experiencing ethanol related problems for a season or so. Around Feb 06 I sp...

Back to the original subject of this string.. The article mentioned above is on page 40 of the BoatUS magazinme which arrived in my mail today.. he experienced engine problems and his fuel tank is beginning to weep at some of it's seams. The congressman (John Shadegg, R-AZ) says he "is extremely ups...

Wow.. very interesting.. Tom.. Me too.. been sick twice, both times on a sailboat. Really bright sun or a belly full of salt water does me in. Rawleigh.. Good points.. I never thought of it that way, but you are correct. Dug.. Also good points.. I always told my powerboater friends (and I do have on...

Bruce.. I did not take your comment personally, and I understand that by and large there is a perception (which I might add I know to be well deserved in many cases) that sailboaters are cheap don't spend much money in marinas, and probably the majority are not attentive to their engines... partly I...

Bruce... I have made several attempts at responding to your brief comment above, but each seemed either condescending, overly defensive, or just plain silly.. none of which is my style. While this forum is a place where everyone can express themselves without fear of starting a war, it is also a pla...

I am not an expert on this, or any other subject for that matter, but I read somewhere a while ago that Cummins was selling the remans as a stopgap measure to be able to offer a fully warranteed product that avoided having to comply with the new emission standards. As I recall it said that engines t...

Respect for one another is fine.. as long as everyone agrees with me! I was for over 20 years a sailboater.. the night after the crash I was delivering a sailboat from Mystic CT to Annapolis MD. Going down LI Sound that night I listened to recovery boats picking up pieces of wreckage and "other thin...

Garmin chartplotter comments...
Harry... I recently installed a new Garmin 2310C chartplotter.. and like it a lot. I have not heard anything positive about Raymarinme's lines, and Northstar while good is rather pricey. I got the 10" screen because I was planning on later adding a Garmin radar, but after reading the comments above ...

Thanks both of you... I agree that more than 10 sec cranking on a starter is a long time.. my Cummins 6Bs start almost before I can get my finger back off the button. I didn't get anything paperwork wise with the new relay.. I specified the usage and had someone else pick it up for me but he didn't ...

Question for Chiles..
You say that your paralelling solenoid is only good for 10 sec at a time.. I have the same setup in a Bertram 33 and am wondering what happens if you exceed the 10 sec limit? Does the solenoid overheat? So far I have not had to use it, but since Bertram apparently installed it when the boat was buil...

Peter... Thanks for your post above.. While being an engineer I understood the basics of the gas vs diesel comparisons and issues.. but stating them clearly so the common boatowner such as myself can understand them is difficult. Possible gas tank internal coating?
I often visit this site even though my Bert is a 33.. as do a lot of others who don't own 31's.. I just ran across this page on the POR-15 web site. Has anyone considered removing the top of their gas boat fuel tank and painting the interior with this stuff? From what I hear, these people have excel...

Cap't Pat.. One last question..
Thank you for the above.. but just to be sure I am correct.. I assume when you say.... "Just don't exceed 1" of total distance between the trailing edges and the distance between the leading edges." That you mean that the total distance S+ plus P+ is more than 1/2" and less than 1" than the distance...

Capt Pat...
Cap't Pat.. In reference to my Bertram 33.. with oversized rudders (rectangular blades, with some balancing area area forward of the rudder posts) how much would you suggest my rudders be out of parallel alignment. Above is mentioned 1" at the forward edges, but different rudder blade configurations...

Harry.. I own a Bertram 33, not a 31, but I recently had a series of conversations with some people at Bertram in regard to the meaning of the hull numbers.. ie: What each character means.. I posted this info in a string of posts on the Bertram 33 web site with the subject "What year is my Bertram"....
