Re: Spark plug wires coming loose
SP wires on your typical plug should snap on as the tip of the plug goes into boot metal female connector. If they do not the boot is bottoming out on the plug shoulder or the connector needs a slight crimp. If they are straight boots, pull the boots back and see if the connector will snap on and pu...

Rick,
From a service stand point that configuration sucks for access to engines. The shear size and weight makes it impractical to remove unless you have a crane.

That is for grounding between housing as you suspect. While the bolts will generaly do it, some models of engines have in the top cover of the thermo housing or the intermediate housing a pipe thread for a temp sender in which some models have a single wire temp probe of which the ground is importan...

Fwd, especially if you are using a centrifical type pump.
Depends on the thickness of your backing plate.
2 to 3 threads left on your thru hull before bottoming out is fine.

Not uncommon to what Ric is doing to Reaper, to spend that amount. His 275k figure is one when he will be done.
Back in the hey day of 31 refits I know of at least 5 31's who's total expenditure was above 350k.
I surveyed and sea trialed one who's owner had 450k in it.

If you have scoops built into the pickup there should be screws into the bottom to hold it. A pipe wrench on the valve should break it loose and unscrew. If your scoops are separate, you'll have to get two pipe wrenches to get it off. One on thru hull, one on valve. Being gate valves I doubt anyone ...

John,
I've used aluminum on engines up to and including Detroit Diesel 6 71 engines.
There is no reason to use galvanized steel over aluminum in your application at all.
Either the welder can't weld aluminum or he doesn't get how to design them and thinks they will be weak.

John,
I've had them where you remove the sister bolts and front and rear brackets and they fall off.
I've had other ones where pry bars, wedges and hammers were needed.
Nice thing about old polyester or epoxy used as glue, it's pretty brittle after all this time. Mostly.

That would be Port.
Looking from the rear engine and prop turn left hand.
Doesn't say new or used or rebuilt which would be helpful on directing him to the correct place.
