Re: 31 FBC STRIPPED WEIGHT
Figure 12,000 lbs before stripping. Take out 220 to 230 gallons of gas at about 6lbs a gallon. That's 1,300 lbs. right there. Engines and transmissions probably come in at another 600 lbs so know you are down about 2,000 lbs. Pull out the rest, you are close but no guarantees. Problem is the older b...

Re: Yanmar 6LP-STP Heat Exchanger
Mickey If you have air in the system, the reservoir will drop as the engine cools down. That would be the antifreeze being sucked back into the engine replacing the air that was pushed out. The air is only pushed out when the engine is running. I would think by now the air should be out of the syste...

JJ, The wheel you're looking for is this one https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53578598848_939610b3e9_c.jpg As far as I know it has been installed until early 70s production and was previously used on Chris-Crafts. The steering wheel on my 1975 was no great shakes new. It was basically an aluminum wheel that had a white vinyl coating that eventually pealed. The aluminum was nothing special once the coating came off. Wasn't even worth recoating.
Not sure what other boats had for Wheels.

Re: under water exhaust
Carl The interesting thing is that there is a bleed off line, which is always there to release pressure. From the designs I saw online I don't see that it closes off at speed. That means it is hard to tell if the flow of water helps reduce back pressure. I am assuming that the flow of water helps a ...

Carl I took a look around the internet and so it is true. They do have a bleed off of the exhaust until the boat gets up to speed. Notice they say it is the Venturi effect. Re: Mercruiser 454 Ignition Coils
If there is a ballast resistor in your ignition circuit, you should see significantly less than 12 volts at the coil. Check it with the engine running since some ignition systems have a relay which bypasses the ballast resistor to give the coil a full 12 volts for starting. Peter Not sure how old h...

That is what I was thinking also, but isn't that the Venturi effect? In any event I would still think they need a bypass or bleed off of the Exhaust gas until it kicked in. So not sure it really accomplishes anything other than quiet down the boat and reduce or eliminate exhaust in the cockpit due t...

I wonder if they shortened the shaft to keep the props positioned as when original or if they moved the props back. I have a feeling they moved the props back, and that's why they sucked in air.

I have not looked at the underwater exhaust on any of the new boats, but I would think that they have an exhaust bypass so that the engines will start. The year of the engines would help. I doubt the shop that redid them changed the ignition set up. That would leave me to believe that it is not passing out the exhaust. It has to be a leak somewhere else. A leak in the exhaust manifold should also create steam unless it is really slow. How much did you lose? If it was a head gasket, I would suspect that you would see steam coming out the exhaust and possibly milky oil. Exhaust Manifold is always a possibility, or you have a leak somewhere.

Or perhaps, covering the frame and glass with some type of release paper or saran wrap, and then make the solid piece using the frame as the mold.
