Ed, I can understand your comcern with gas boats after the incident you were involved in. But the fact of the matter is gas boat fires are caused by carelessness or lack of maintenance leading to leaks from rotted hose, bad hose clamps corroded fuel tanks, bad wiring . If gas boats were that inheren...

Some older bell housings had a rubber plug in the top. This can be removed and with a flashlight check the springs. Otherwise it will take removal of the gear to inspect. Now a clunk while shifting can occur in the inline. Especially if the shaft is free wheeling due to movement of the boat or curre...

Bob, The way I figure it on the 330 with gear, mounts, shipping, crating and all the standard stuff it surpasses the 20k mark not to mention the upgrade of the running gear at somewheres around 2 to 3k a side. Now that would put a basic setup for a pair around 46k with running gear improvements. les...

Mike, BW inline gears will not rattle even as they lose fluid. They will just get to the point where they start slipping and won't drive anymore as the pressure will drop causing the forward or reverse piston to relax allowing the plates to slip. The way the reduction is set up is you have three sma...

Possible first lawsuits over ethanol and warrantee coverage

Down in Lauderdale today working on a 130' Corporate Euro tub owned by a major marine manufacturer and in talking to the Capt about the effects of ethanol, he let slip that he has heard the Corp big wigs having meetings on the tub recently discussing the failures of gas engines related to detonation...

David, There will always be those who will ignore the signs of potential pending problems until they are smack dab in the middle of them. The last two years worth of hurricanes are a good example of that. Trying to put up shutters or double lining your boat in a cat 3 storm is a little late. The pla...

Rob,
The problem is the goo can cause serious engine valve train problems. Running under that condition is not wise.
Clean gas with additives will not disolve the goo in a running condition.

What color is the water you are running in? Are you running in blue water or Mississippi mud colored water? Engine overload produces a black color to the water from soot of low O2 combustion. Besides as you indicated you only get the short puff of black as the turbos spin up on plane. Rust and oil c...

If you want to isolate the engines from each other, then two switches are needed. If you had one switch and had an electrical short on one engine, you would have to shut both engines down to disconnect the battery, leaving you stranded. If you leave the swiches on both and have a drain on one batter...

Cat 3116 question

Someone emailed me a question on upgrading a 3116 to 350hp. Looks like Injectors and Turbo according to my Cat sources.
New about 3k in parts but both can be had rebuilt for less money.
Would need engine serial numbers to be sure.

Sorry but the spam filter is killin a good bit of legit email.

It is truely a shame that some people can find no other use for their life than to disrupt the enjoyment of others. It points to some serious mental and personality shortcomings.
I just found my purpose in life.
