Re: under water exhaust

Carl I took a look around the internet and so it is true. They do have a bleed off of the exhaust until the boat gets up to speed. Notice they say it is the Venturi effect. LOL Finally I get to use a word that is not in my vocabulary. Based on this, the flow of water under the boat does not seem to ...

Re: Mercruiser 454 Ignition Coils

If there is a ballast resistor in your ignition circuit, you should see significantly less than 12 volts at the coil. Check it with the engine running since some ignition systems have a relay which bypasses the ballast resistor to give the coil a full 12 volts for starting. Peter Not sure how old h...

Re: under water exhaust

That is what I was thinking also, but isn't that the Venturi effect? In any event I would still think they need a bypass or bleed off of the Exhaust gas until it kicked in. So not sure it really accomplishes anything other than quiet down the boat and reduce or eliminate exhaust in the cockpit due t...

I wonder if they shortened the shaft to keep the props positioned as when original or if they moved the props back. I have a feeling they moved the props back, and that's why they sucked in air.

Re: under water exhaust

I have not looked at the underwater exhaust on any of the new boats, but I would think that they have an exhaust bypass so that the engines will start. They need to breath to start, and I might be wrong, but I would think they would be hard starting if the only exhaust was to push water out of the e...

Re: Mercruiser 454 Ignition Coils

The year of the engines would help. I doubt the shop that redid them changed the ignition set up. Some of the older MerCruiser's, had what was called a Thunderbolt ignition and the coil was completely different from what most of us are used to. Plus in certain years I think they had some funky thing...

I had attributed it yanmars smoke but maybe they are working too hard.

That would leave me to believe that it is not passing out the exhaust. It has to be a leak somewhere else. A leak in the exhaust manifold should also create steam unless it is really slow. Is it possible that the engine was airlocked and that air passed out on the last run? I had something similar w...

How much did you lose? If it was a head gasket, I would suspect that you would see steam coming out the exhaust and possibly milky oil. Exhaust Manifold is always a possibility, or you have a leak somewhere.

If I remember correctly the 29 Blackfin had the rudders set up, so they were out behind the stern. I believe there were some issues with the boat handled with the rudders back that far. You do not see any of the newer inboards designed that way.
