On mine, the thread is cast into the zinc so there is no nut. The stainless threaded section if pressed down after pulling through one side might allow you to use a hacksaw on it. Won't be a piece of cake as stainless ain't soft. If you can work with a partner, maybe two Locking pliers might allow t...

Hueso-so we understand properly, our rudder zincs up north are usually two discs with a ss Allen head that goes through a threadless zinc half, through the rudder onto the other half of the zinc which IS threaded. Half a dozen turns on the allen wrench and the rudder is sandwiched snugly by the zinc...

Static Surpressors
I get all kinds of marks on my new(ish) depth recorder when running very much beyond trolling speed. The faster, the worse. I have Cummins 6bt's. I thought a surpressor on my unit's power line would do it but have been told I would need one on each of my alternators. No problem on my radios or my ch...

I don't believe it! Stops it from dissolving fiberglass fuel tanks, eroding gaskets, fuel and vent lines? All this MIGHT do is slow down separation. If their claims were close to true, there would be stories galore in all the boating books, NOT Road & Track. What problems do they claim to cure? Snak...

Calling the Atlantic City Rendezvous.
I received a call from Terry Frank last night. It seems that the Mid-Atlanic group that just had their Rendezvous, created a banner honoring Uncle Vic, which all the participants signed. He wanted to send it to me to take to the Northeast Rendezvous for all of us to sign. I am pretty sure the Atlant...

Site or me?
I've started noticing that often after I have read through a thread and moved on, the indicator light stays on. I interpreted that as someone contributed after me and go back to see what was written, only to find the last guy was me. Anyone else have that happen or is it just me?

Vic-I'm not saying goodbye until one of us walks out the door. Reality: There is tackle you don't want your guests to use. YOU will rarely use trolling equipment because you're running the boat. Chunking, chumming, bottom fishing is where you will actually have that "perfect combo" in your hands, but the minute you put it down, someone will lay it down on a har...

You'll probably get all sorts of more valid choices from the REAL offshore guys, but as a Captain with a crew of guests or charter people, I found Mono the most forgiving of them all. I also liked using matched differently colored mono on my 30''s, 50's and 80's so I could clearly see where each lin...

Bruce- am I wrong that the diode is normally just after the lug fitting that connects to the alternator? Mine (both) were pretty much camoflaged and looked like part of the wire. I suspect anyone not knowing what they looked like and where they were would never find them on their own. Is that their ...

There was a bright red B-20 powered by a Yanmar diesel (if I am not mistaken) and a Bravo 3 outdrive at the NY Boat show several years ago. I think it also appeared at the Atlantic City Bertram Rendezvous. It HAD that wierd spraying system over the top section of the Bravo 3. I was told it was put o...

The diode is right before the lug you would use to connect the wire to the alternator. Looking at the wire, you would swear it's not there as it's covered with insulation exactly like the rest of the wire. If you have a long enough exciter wire strip back 2-3" starting at the lug. The diode on mine ...

Feel the exciter wire. There is a small multi colored (striped) diode that is soldered in. The connection is probably broken. I peeled back my insulation and removed it. Note (on paper so you won't forget) the colors and their direction towards the alternator. Take the diode to Radio Shack and they'...

You're running off the fuel stored in the secondary filter. once it's consumed the engine stops. Before you go to the check valve, try two things to isolate your problem. First, have someone staring at the bowl when you turn the engine over. If you have a crack or leak that lets air in (breaks the v...

Yours is an old house and they don't make them that way any more. Had one like it in Nassau County. I found the wall behind a radiator was cracked a bit and didn't feel solid. When I started looking for solid wall, I ended up with a 6' x 9' hole and a huge pile of rubble. There was wood lathe covere...
