Quite a few off St. Pete and Clearwater have been sighted also this summer. Pretty wild really. This is the first year I have seen turtles (and big ones) inside Tampa Bay. There was a stretch where I saw one every weekend for 5 weekends straight. Had not seen seen one in Tampa Bay prior (and I've be...

So finally got my panel - have yet to install it yet - but I really like the idea of having more convenient access. Is there an issue with mounting this in the cabin where the stairs come down? I could recess it a little - I could even put a plexiglass cover on it if I wanted to get fancy. Thoughts?

I'll check that the neutral switch first, then try to jump start straight to the alternator - to make sure it's not sticking - no sound (oth...

Bertram 28 - Starboard Engine won't crank
thought it might be a fuse or breaker - but they all looked OK - I have 13volts to the starter when I flip the starter switch - SO dead starter motor?
2nd Q - it's the starboard engine - is this the engine that's conventional rotation and the port is counter rotating?
Thanks in advance.

Sounds like less than 5 years. What you are seeing is an attempt by the manufacturers to meet what they think is a consumer demand. What this usually creates is a rush to meet that demand with products that are not properly tested...and most importantly, not given the test of time. This is one we c...

Jeremy... I don't think these fuses are anything special.. I have looked at thousands of them in power distribution systems in factories, hospitals, and hotels all over the country. They probably aren't built to marine standards, hence the corrosion, but they did a passable job. As I told you, ther...

~ $229 for the panel (www.defender.com) - I figure another few hundred for circuit breakers to get rid of the 25 year old fuses - I'll also replace any wiring that has any degree of embrittlement.

Steve - I just pulled mine - and fixed the leaks - we will see if they hold - The sit on wooden platforms that hold water. That's where the corrosion starts. You B31's have more room for a straight six - no room for those in the B28's. So from a packaging standpoint - you either go with the 4 cyl yanmars, or the 6- Steyrs or repower with gas. With all the development in diesels, especially in europe - you would think that there would be more options. Mor...

Anybody look at the new Marine VW Diesels?
Seems like they (VW) have plenty of experience running diesels in europe. Their TDI line is recognized as a value leader. Now they have a marine line of diesels - They seem to have a pretty good handle on packaging. http://www.vw-m.de/uploads/pics/engine_tdi_265_6_01.jpg They are positioning their T...
