I don't have them and really don't feel the need for them. I have a great LED flashlight that I keep in the helm area and love it.

Also, I simply don't want to put a couple of holes in my boat.. IMHO I have too many already.

I would not buy any unit that does not have a removable built in primary battery as well as a backup flashlight type battery holder so if your primary battery loses ir's charge you can remove it and replace it with a backup battery power source.

I used something similar when I repowered a 34' (dare I say?) sailboat with a 30 HP diesel many years ago.. they help in several ways.. they often result in less vibration and can tolerate a bit of engine/prop shaft misalignment.
