Get the 31! Nine yrs ago I came upon the same situation. We had two boats- one sail, the other an i /o. I sold them both and we were in the market for a inboard. At the time, I was clueless as to what a BERTRAM 31 represented. I found out by accident. And there were two 31's. One needed work that I ...

I don't know if I'd use this idea when it comes to New York. And here's why.
As I'm over taking another vessel and indicating by horn as to which side I will pass him ( port or stbd ), how will he hear me?

Matt, I'd do what Randalllll suggestd. But when you do it, use ablative paint as your bottom paint. It costs more in the start but cheaper the following years.

My ablative paint comes off because of the high speed of the boat. But that's o.k. We like fast!

Isn't that right, Diesel Dug?

Charlie, I did mine by sand blasting right down to the gel coat. I mean all the paint came off. Three coats of Interprotect. That was it. $12.00 per foot, I hung the side curtins and put the tarp on the ground. Did the Interprotect myself and the three coats of paint. Call Dennis if you wish, 631 95...

How come the switch. Just because one is almost in your back yard, I'd rethink it. A B35 is no way near B31.
My family would like a 33 but put up with me and the spartan accomodations because I like the 31 that we have.

I am running Michigan 18x18 quads with high proformance spark plugs and air filters. 3000 RPM means 23 knts for the boat. No doubt I loose on the top end but the cruise @ 19 knts is good. If I were to repower, I would buy two 454's from the junk yard. They go for $400/800 per engine for two bolt mai...
