I used to have Detroit 453's and thought the same thing -- if I could just get over the hump I would plane out and get moving. Added tabs and no change in speed. I do like them -- nosing down in a chop and leveling the load etc. and I think they are worth the money for that reason. But not for speed.

You may have already figured out a solution, but I used "window edge seal" from McMaster Carr. Had it on for about 1 year -- holding up good. Ran a thin bead of RTV on it before installing. My guess is it will last several years before needing replacement...

The net works great. Pelicans are still stacked up on the dock behind my boat but no birds on the boat. Two people can install it in about 3 minutes. The net has been on the boat for over a month and no pooh pooh! Thanks Tony.
