Something i noticed that illustrates the "optimized" theory, If you look at the sheet with the 6lp, it has a "past power" section with 330 horse 454s similar gear ratio as the diesel. The 18x18 prop at the cruise rpm of 3200 is shown as about 72% efficient. Vs the diesel props 18x19, 89.4% efficient...

My boat is a 1969 sport fish, weighs 10,320lbs with mercruiser 454s and full tank of fuel. No water.
I think i could hit 9,600lbs with about 30 gallons of fuel. Boat only no people.
