Turned out it was the helm. Gears all busted up. Was able to reuse cable with new helm. Now it steers like butter. Steering before was super stiff and now it’s very smoothly. Good upgrade. Appreciate all the feedback.

Hello, I think the steering cable broke on my 1978 Bertram. I will know for sure on Monday when we remove and test. Hopefully it’s not rudders or something else not thinking of. Very helpful! I will have boat hauled out to inspect bottom, props, shafts, mechanical survey, and boat survey. But before all that good to know what to look for myself. Thanks for all the feedback. I will keep you posted.
