HELP!!!! need to sell 1979 28 FB Bertram

I just opened and email from Homer Smith Marinia advising me that our previous agreement on Dock Fee could not carry over to next year and would jump from $7,200 to $8,500. My wife recently retired and our son doesn't graduate from college until May 2024 so I am forced to yell UNCLE and tap out. If ...

Garmin 942xs

I had this GPS for about 5 years and suddenly as I was leaving inside of Shackelford Banks to head back to Homer Smith it wouldn't power up. Thankfully I knew the waters and I also had activated Navionics on my phone. I lost all saved tracks, but no big deal, but it took me 4 days to finally reach a...

FROM TIME TO TIME, WHEN I NEED THE CORRECT ADVICE I TURN TO MY FELLOW BERTRAM OWNERS SO I'D LIKE ANYONE OR EVERYONE TO CHIME IN ON THE FOLLOWING: 1. THE SCREENS ON MY 28 FB BERTRAM APPEAR TO ME TO BE IN BACKWARDS BUT MAYBE ITS ME. THE SCREEN IS ON THE INSIDE TRACK AND THE WINDOW ON THE OUTSIDE TRACK...

rub rail

I want to replace the rub rail on my 1979 28" FB. Is the only way to determine the correct replacement material is to take off a piece to and an exact match. Has anyone used TACO rub rail replacement?

effective way to pinpoint a leak

It drives me crazy that after a good rain I'll have water on the counter top in the head and galley area. I have had someone stand inside the head while I squirted a hose down the port side of the boat starting with the flying bridge then moving down to the hand rail attached to the flying bridge le...

Bleeding Hynautics steering

Went over to the today. Turned the two 1/2" nuts for the purging lines. On my boat these were not located on the Reservoir as some diagrams showed but instead they were located on the starboard bulkhead with easy access by removing the starboard hatch cover in the stern. Once they were loosened i us...

bleeding hynautics steering

Installed two new cranking batteries and on my 1979 28' FB and engines fired up beautifully. My neighbor was helping me and suggested we do a sea trial. After leaving my slip with and putting both clutches in forward I realized I didn't have any steering at the bridge helm but I had it in the lower ...

Re: HELP!!!

Hello Rick, I wonder what happened to you. This is Doug and I had the 28 Bertram directly across from you if you had the 31 with headlights in the bow. Now I see another boat in your slip.

clutch levers sticking

Saturday, after a nice boat ride in the Trump flotilla I headed back to Homer Smith. Everything was beautiful as I approached my slip and dropped the throttle down to 900 rpm then it was time to go into Neutral and then the pucker factor kicked in. The starboard clutch lever was stuck in forward. I ...

trim tabs

In talking to different Bertram brothers. Some say they use trim tabs while others say they never touch them. Since my boat didn't have them when I bought her I was flirting with buying a set but not if they don't make that much difference.

oil pressure gauge

Im running two 350 gas mercruisers. my port engine oil pressure reads 55-60 but my starboard was reading 80. I changed the oil sending unit for dual station and the garage stills reads 75-80. No obvious oil leaks, nuts are all tight on oil pan etc., any suggestions?

2020 rendezvous

Thank you-Thank You-Thank You to all of the Bertram Family. Yesterday was the first Bertram Rendezvous for the Cawman family(Doug, Heidi) and of course our 28' Bertram C-Turtle. Lin, Joel, Jim, and his son Joe and many others whose names escape me were so welcoming. Tracey, Kathy really made Heidi f...

replacing the side panels on the bridge and cockpit

Does anyone know where to get the materials or similar material to replace the panels in the Bridge and cockpit area. Secondly, has anyone ever replaced the aluminum window frames on a 28' FB. Mine are in pretty rough shape. Last thing, sorry, but will any window wiper fit or is there a special wipe...

steering fluid in Bilge

The C Turtle has been running beautifully but yesterday after leaving Beaufort Inlet I powered down to let my wife starting trolling. My starboard engine stalled out and wouldn't restart so I limped back to Homer Smith on the Port engine. At one point I had to really really oversteer to counter the ...

Re: Trim Tabs - Bertram 28

Thanks to everyone, I think LOL, who chimed in on Tabs vs No Tabs. My 1979 28'FB didn't have tabs on her when I bought her a couple of years ago and now that she has been re-powered blah blah blah I am shopping for Trim Tabs. One web sight suggested 2 inches of Tab over the length so for a 28' that ...

FINALLY, FINALLY, FINALLY My 28 FB is running. It was a long road with replacing oil sending units, oil pressure switch, rebuild on starboard transmission just to pull it part way out to turn the transmission pump 180 degrees for counter rotation but both engines fire up and sound beautiful. Now I w...

Meeting with other Bertram family members

I would very much enjoy meeting and socializing with other Bertram owners, does that make me a Bertram snob LOL? If there are any fund raising events etc., with the Bertram 31 family in the Beaufort, NC area I'd love to hear about them and tag along on any runs that may be planned. Thanks, PS I love...

HELP!!!

After completing a 20 career in the Marine Corps and 25 year career with the Maryland State Police I inherited from my father his 22 foot Mako. Needing more room I purchased a 1979 28' FB Bertram for 12K with supposedly two remanufactured engines--not so, but that's on me so for 10K I bought two new...

Steering issues

I believe the Hynautics steering on my 1979 28 Bertram is original. I had the Ram rebuilt just prior to Florence hitting Beaufort, NC, where I am. I'm curious if anyone knows if there is a place in the flying Bridge that needs bleeding or is everything, in my case, located in the starboard engine co...
