Re: 9/11 Never Forget

In the Panhandle of FL the presence and aftermath is very much more remembered than most likely the rest of the US. We have a huge Military presence from Pensacola to Panama City to include: 4-US Air Force Bases 3-Naval Air/Sea Bases Army 7th Special Forces Army Ranger Swamp Training Base Naval EOD ...

Re: B-25 Bracket

There are obviously several commercial bracket builders such as Armstrong and Gil, these folks have made several for our boats and are good at it, but there are less expensive alternatives. Look for a local fabricator with experience. There are several here on the Gulf Coast with Bertram hull matchi...

Re: HELP-Yanmar 4LHA-STP Black Smoke/Slow Acceleration

Save time and money and hire a certified Yanmar mechanic... I had the same problem on one 4LH-DTE. It was the turbo and a bearing problem. All seemed well in my inspection, the mechanic found the problem within 15 minutes. You might be able to find a rebuilt turbo if that is the case. Hope it is a c...

Re: Generator size and Location?

Great replies and really has me thinking... Most items can be ran on a good inverter and as battery and inverter technology is so much more efficicient, I may plan to do the large house battery and ditch the generator all together. Is there a manufacturer that makes a suitcase gen in diesel like Hon...

Generator size and Location?

Hey Guys, I'm still removing the guts from my 31 and I am in the planing stage of my final lay-out. My boat came with the generator installed to the starboard side of the cabin under the cabinet just past the head. I was surprised to see this location, but it is well insulated and worked fine for th...

Re: Tropic Star Lodge and Bertram 31 magazine srticle

We are the smart ones! Any Bertram is a tank and overbuilt for its own class, especially compared to the boats built today. And let's compare the price of a completely restored 31 vs. a new thirty-something Center Console, let alone a sport fish in the same size. Dollar to dollar this is the true va...

Re: Tropic Star Lodge and Bertram 31 magazine srticle

Frank, thanks for the heads up! On my to do list for today. The Tropic Star made a fishing promotional video years ago about the fishing in Panama, it was a great video and showing hundreds of Blue Marlin and other Pelegic hookups. But the thing that really stood out was the Bertram 31. The fishabil...

Re: Hauling a 1961 B31 sport fisherman and stability at anch

Fighter Pilot, I'm just North of Elgin AFB and I just hauled my B31 from Orange Beach AL to my farm on a 3axle trailer. My fly bridge was just a fraction under 14' on the trailer. I set the trailer up as close a possible to the outside of the shafts and struts which lowered the hull as low as possib...

Re: Newbie, Yanmars 175 hp. In B31

Palm B Plan B includes all things Bertram, as I have our B31 started in its restoration project I have decided to look for a more appropriate vessel to install the engines. We will re power the 31 as time and money allows, but recently I have found a Bertram 26 Express needing re-powered, and I feel...

Re: Newbie, Yanmars 175 hp. In B31

Uncle... I have decided that selling the 170's is the best thing to do. I can recover some costs going forward and let someone restoring a Bertram 25 put these babies in it. They are low hours around or less than 500 and run well with ZF drives. If there is any interest please feel free to contact m...

Re: Best Way to Cut into Hull Side

Hole saw, the best way to go. No it's not a straight cut, you will cut at an angle and possibly a compound angle, therefore you will have to make a scraficial block. The block will be square with the pilot drill bit and the saw blade teeth. Once you get into the glass. You can remove the block. Also...

Newbie, Yanmars 175 hp. In B31

Hello Guys, and thanks for letting me join this fine group, I have been following this site with dreams of owning a Bertram 31. I almost pulled the trigger on a beautiful B28, but the dream would still not be fulfilled. So a 31 it shall be... I'm in the FL Panhandle near Destin and feel fortunate to...
