John,
I'm at Mears Point. Mack's experience at Worton Creek is giving me second thoughts about where to do the install.....
And these little bitty stock rudders will drive me crazy no more!

John, I am indeed located at Kent Narrows. I had planned to have Worton Creek (John Patnovik -sp?) do it, since he's a Bertram specialist. But that's a haul from Kent Narrows and I'm darn near out of fuel. I'll do my research and lay out the plan, and then consult with a crew that I've been working ...

Thanks, Mikey, for the good info....

Patrick, will the 165-gallon tank work OK in place of the 240-gallon unit?

I sure appreciate your help.

Mikey, Well, it's fuel tank swap-out time for my B-28 this winter. Would love to learn of your technique to remove the old tank! All advice sincerely appreciated. Also, my old tank is the 230 (240?) gallon. Want to replace it with a 165-gallon. Are there any major problems with this. Again, I appeci...

Crusader Crapping Out

I really enjoy and appreciate all the info and insight you all provide on this site. I have an '83 B28 with relatively new (200 hours) 5.7 Crusader Classics (carbureted). On a recent trip, the starboard engine crapped out -- just plain quit -- at displacement speed, about 1900 rpm. No sputtering, ju...

Walter, While I firmly disagree with George Will's political aspect, I certainly concur with the ever-growing skepticism about ethanol as a solution for our nation's oil dependency. It's pure folly. As you know, the Wall Street Journal has been all over it, virtually every other publishing day. It's...

I dream of installing Capt. Pat's rudders on my Hyena. Unless you're really a master (and I ain't) handling a B28 on one wheel is really a chore, especially in tight quarters. The standard damn Hyena rudders are just too small for the job.

Well, the old AC/DC Norcold in our '83 B28 still is running strong. It's ugly as sin, and I was thinking about replacing it about six years ago. I then had to pull the thing from under the cabinet to get to the water heater for some unrelated work (long story), ran out of money, and just put the old...

John, We're at Mears Point, F-123. Just stripping the boat for its long-dark winter, and plan to haul out early next week. We winter at Harrison's. Would like to chug down to St. Michael's one more time to top off the tank, but time may not permit.... Where to you keep your boat summer/winter? Bob

John,

I saw that information also. But my question is...how do certain counties "opt in" to E10? And conversely, how can we influence counties NOT to opt in?

Yeah, that's my B28 in the photo. And I've been commiserating regularly about the Bert gas problem with Sam Worsham, who's quoted in the article. He's doing a complete repowering with a pair of 370 Cummins on his B38. Fortunately, we can still get straight non-ethanol gas from the mid-Chesapeake down!

I'm fascinated with the discussion of tanks that were gelcoated inside, and not suffering from ethanol-itis. I have a 1983 B-28, with a fiberglass tank of course, and it's definitely NOT gelcoated on the outside. Does this mean that it IS or it MIGHT BE gelcoated on the inside?

Dick, I have the same issue with my 1983 B28. But I don't want to cut out the old tank (I still have some "good" gas in it) until I have a replacement.... I've talked with or emailed at least 15 B28 owners in the same situation. Surely SOMEBODY either has the tank's dimensions and/or is fabricating ...
