Did not grind them. Just sanded, three coats of 545 rolled on. No reducer, just 50/50 primer/converter. It really fills crazing nicely. Sand again to 320 and had painter shoot it. I did not build the beds, the painter did. He is a glass guy obviously! Three sheets of 3/4 inch and 1 sheet of 1/2 inch...

No crazing. Rolling the primer in fills all that little stuff. The three inch wholes in the gunnels that I filled even look good. They were the trip over clam shell vents...hated them. The circular ring that is always tough to hide due to expansion/contraction of the filler, no problem, the primer w...

Been on a lot lof shrimp boats, few of which could not find drugs or party favors. even the small shrimp boats, 50 footers, I don't buy the sharks rammed my boat story. I heard the shaft was knocked out version of the story. It's called coral and yes, that could knock the shaft out. Short of that, i...

CaptDana; I used the awlgrip 545 epoxy primer. Gouges and dockrash were filled with plain old filler...think it was Mikes, light and fluffy stuff you mix with MethylEthlyKetone(peroxide?) Not a chemist, or a painter for that matter! I used three coats of primer. All three rolled on, paying close att...

I did everything except spray the paint on my boat. I was told to roll on the primer because it will fill more of the blemishes. Sanded the primer down and paid a painter to spray the boat with awlgrip. It came out pretty good. Not flawlless thats for sure but I am happy with it. I was concerned abo...

went under the boat today
It has been in the water since late october and to my surprise there was almost no growth. A few barnacles on the rudders and on the trim tabs. Hardly even a scum line. What I did notice was the bottom paint that is on the transom with in three inches of the trim tabs is all peeled off. Brushed it a...

Nice! I always love to hear good news. I was bummed at first thinking I had to go to the yard. Now I can grab it by the horns. And YES my insurance is paid and current. My cockpit is not screwwed down yet either. I am just going to pull it off so I can also see what I am doing. Thank you for all the...

Well, it has been two years. I think I bought the stuff that said teflon. At the time I assumed teflon made it better, but learned on this site that it is not the case. You think that is the problem? Don't want to haul the boat. I am fast when I work, but not that fast! Wonder if CX will stop a leak...

Well, since you brought it up, even though it is an analogy, the answer would be both. In a twin engine boat, the two stroke EFI Mercs in the 250 hp range drink around 66 gallons an hour at WOT. The 4 stroke 250 twin Verados drinks 59 gallons an hour....not much better despite being a 4 stroke. I re...

And the reasons not to put on outboards would be: - they are very expensive, you could buy diesels for the cost -you would have to re-invent the transom.....designed for inboards -outboards drink fuel like I drink beer -outboards for the most part are disposable....use a couple of years and time for...

Mikey, I have the Steyr 212 HP After fourty hours of run time the fuel would not go through the 2 micron. That is my theory anyway. I thought maybe debris, but Perhaps the die? Which diesel racors do I buy?
Was told that the racors I am using will work but I should go for the Racor 500 Turbine series. Looked them up and am seeing several different letter codes after the 500. The reason I am changing is because after running for greater than say 20 or 30 minutes, I will lose speed, but no black smoke. T...

My official Steyr fuel burn
Well, here it is. I used the GPS to log 126 miles of cruising. That started at the dock when I fired the engines and included all idle times. This was not all one trip. Probably between 6-8 trips around Marathon area. Basically if the engines were running the GPS was recording whether sitting still ...

Although I only have 33 hours on the Steyrs, I highly recomend them. Same gear ratio tranny and re-used same running gear. There should be some posts on here about the Steyr. They are not the cheapest but quality looks pretty good. Can't speak for performance becuase mine is a 28. Not sure if any 31...

SHRIMP PIMP! That is classic. Some friends of mine will appreciate that one. Ever been on a shrimp boat? Those boats are offshore for months at a time down here and many of them have dogs aboard.
