Halon 1301
I have a couple Automatic Fireboys model 35CG in halon 1301. They came in the engine room when I first bought the boat. A few questions about them. 1. Are these something I should service and keep with diesels in the boat? 2 Are they worth anything? Used to be volunteer firefighter and remember hear...

Danny at Hightide sells the 165 gallon ethanol approved fiberglass tank for 3600. Installation probably a little pricy unless you do it yourself. If you have not baught a boat yet, shop around. You may want to look at ethanol discussion. Aluminum is not safe from ethanol either. If you can find one ...

31 Express for sale in Lauderdale
Saw it today across from 15 st boat ramp pretty close to convention center. Red hull, gas engines. The sign said 26K. Here is the number. 954 646 0328. Seems pretty cheap. Kevin

Sean, There are no boats around with cords in the water. Since you mentioned it, my engines are hooked up independantly to each battery. No switches yet due to my time crunch. No parallel or ground from engine to engine. Just enough wire to power/run the engines. I think the alternator charges batte...

When we hauled the boat out of the water on Tuesday I checkked out the zincs. Despite only being in the water for just over a week, I noticed that one of the 5 inch pancakes on the rudder was already being eaten. About half the surface area was roughed up while the other half was still smooth. Is th...

"Rough Day"
So it was Tuesday, a day I had been looking forward to. All needed fixes/modifications to the boat were completed. Still some cosmetics to complete, but overall the boat was ready for the trip to Lauderdale. I new it was going to be windy a day ahead of time, but what the heck, it's a Bertram. I che...

Bilgekote rates up there with CX. I did not sand mine. Just clean the best you can. Paint will even displace a few drops of water here and there. I on the other hand think white is the best. "If" you had an oil leak you can easily spot it. Been ther done that with the chryslers....they leaked. I per...

Bruce, I need "guidance" on my set up too. In fact, after looking at my goat rodeo of wiring I was hoping that maybe I could leave the boat with you for a couple days. The only wires left that go to the bridge are for the new Steyr panels. Yanked all the nasty dated electronics and starting fresh. I...

If your boat is built like mine (28)the tank is glassed to the stringers. I might have pictures of mine on the computer that I could send to you. Steyr repower sea trial
Sea trialed the B28 today. Wind was 15 to 20 down here in the keys. Pretty sloppy. The 212 hp Steyr's did well. ZF 45 gears with 1.5's and 1 1/8 shafts. Props are 17 15 three blades. Stock set up on the running gear. We had full tank of fuel, six people onbaord, 5 batterries, all my tools and boat b...

I can tell you that Steyr 6 cylinder will fit in a 1980 28. Using the existing running gear which is 1 1/8 shafts. Came from factory with merc 233's and velvet 71c. Switching to a ZF gear with down angle neccesitates some minor mods to fit the tranny back through rear bulkhead. Also needed spacers t...

Good to know. On that note, here is the lowdown on the Steyr install. Cut out the plywood that surrounds the shaft on a B28. Did this to accomodate the ZF 45 gear. 28 Moppie vs. flybridge performance comparison.
Spoke with Bruce today regarding Steyr repower. Steyr told him that 28 Moppie with twin 165 hp cruised at 25mph and 30mph wot. Fuel burn at cruise is 11 gph total. Very nice numbers. The props are 16x15 and 2 to 1 gear. Our main question is how much heavier is the flybridge model compared to the Mop...

Very true, especially when the mechanic they use to fix the stuff is not even a mechanic. It is the guy that is willing to work for the lowest bid/salary. As for the Marine Patrol....never, never ever buy something at one of those auctions. There is a reason it is being surplussed. I can prove that!...

Steyr's on ebay for 25B possibly
Found the 165 hp version of the motor on ebay. Probably too small for the 28 but may be good for the 25. They are set up for Bravo drives. 350 hours on each motor. Selling for 18,500 for the pair. They came out of a U.S. Fish and Wildlife vessel according to the Q and A at bottom of listing. I.E., s...
