I considered the same post the other night but sill have my thouhts all over the place. And no I wasn't hitting the bottle ;)
I think JohnF has some good thoughts on handling this year and is probably what I'll do.
The one thing I am doing is going to The Atlantic City Rendezvous. I've finally got the boat in decent enough shape to make the trip & a babysitter lined up. JohnF and Mack, I think you should join me. After all I can't keep up with Diesel Doug.
I still haven't decided whether to pull the trigger on a new tank or not. I don't like the idea of removing a perfectly good tank because of some fuel additive which may go away (though not likely). If I do replace the tank it will be Fiberglass or Aluminum. I just can't accept the added risk of a SS tank, it's a conductive material, you know sparks and gas don't mix outside of the motor.... I know Aluminum isn't the best and may fail prematurely due to corrosion. But its alot cheaper and after the initial removal of the FG tank replacing an Aluminum could be done pretty cheaply.
The other thing I'm doing is adding floscan's GPH and Tach's. This is an attempt to be as efficient as possible. If I can save 100 gal a year, in 2 they'll have paid for themselves. The other benefit will be to know for sure when one motor is working harder than the other. May possibly be an indicator of plug/valve fouling?
As for selling with fuel costs up and that fuel causing motor problems, prices would be an insult. So better to keep your boat and wait for the storm to pass. At least for us Chesapeake Bay guys there's lots to do and fairly close. I may not be knocking down tuna all summer but I can get out on the water fish, swim, or whatever all within a few miles of my dock.
We should do a raft up in June, maybe in Whitehall bay? I belive some THT's did it last year. Just anchor up for the Day or weekend. No dockage fees, just hang out and have fun.
