____________________________________________Ethanol more harm than good, except for farmers
Regarding the April 14 article, "The next new choice at the pump," I thought I would pass on information that Florida Agriculture Commissioner Charles Bronson failed to mention.
The Northeast has had ethanol for a few years, and the following problems have developed. Fiberglass fuel tanks in boats are dissolving. It etches aluminum tanks. Tests done by numerous agencies have shown this. The mixture has ruined engines. While newer cars can tolerate some ethanol, in older cars, the rubber parts will dissolve, leading to engine failure and possible fire.
Ethanol allows water to mix with fuel and create poor engine performance and even more emission output than current blends of gasoline. In a state that has high humidity, water is inevitable. There also are studies that show that ethanol does not reduce emissions.
Ethanol is a government subsidy to the farmers. Gas companies have said they could refine fuel to meet stricter emission standards. Ethanol is not an alternative that anybody except the government wants.
Contact your representatives and ask whether they will replace your car when it is disabled.
