I spent some time last night looking at EPA information on fiberglass storage tanks and ethanol. Clearly it is a better solvent than MTBE. In the studies from DOW and other manufacturers 100% ethanol basically invaded older fiberglass up to 50% of the shell in a three year time period. They did not find material issues with a 10% ethanol blend.
Neoprene however did have significant degradation issues with ethanol. My reaction to all this is to put on big Raccor's, change all the neoprene lines and monitor the filters aggressievley as the ethanol starts to clean the tank.
Meanwhile I can see a cottage industry forming where someone will go up with a slick approach for reconditioining the original tank.
