The amount of acreage needed will always keep the US percentage of Ethanol lower than Brazil, which has sugar cane and lots of rainforest to cut down for new land. The same problem exists for biodiesel, although it is a much better product that Ethanol to fuel vehicles with. I doubt we will ever see wide spread distribution of E85. I saw a figure that if all US veg. oil, cooking oil and fat (tallow) were used to produce biodiesel, it would meet just 14% of the US diesel demand. Blend percentages will always be low because of that.
