Privite aircraft can get an STC for autogas. The biggest problem with aircraft is they do "make" water. You take-off on a 95 degree day with 95% humidity and climb to 10,000 feet where it is 65F or less. Now all that water in air inside the tank condenses on the tank walls. Because of all the vibrations it finds it's way into the fuel. Everytime I took my plane up I checked the fuel. Most of the time in the summer I had a few "Bubbles" of water. Now mix in ethanol and that water will stay in the fuel. Very bad things can happen. When up remove power like to land the extar water can freeze in the caburator. No good. The ethanol/water can "phase" seperate. No good. Ethanol can eat away at the tank sealing compounds. No good. Aircraft have lots of aluminum in the fuel systems. Ethanol no good. This is lot bigger problem for guys who want to burn autogas instead of avgas. At least they have an option. I don't think most states like you transporting a couple hunderd gallons of avgas for your boat. Plus that stuff is expensive hence the STC for autogas.
