(he says with toung in cheek)
Afte an un-eventful winter, I brought the Lady D home last night and was very pleased with the new soundown lined hatches and was able to turn up to 4200 on both motors. After throtling back to a cmfortable curise of 3100 for a little while I heard a dull thump on the port side. Luckily, I have a lower helm and was in the cabin otherwise I wouldn't have heard anything.
It turned out that the main fw hose which runs from the exchanger to the circ-pump blew off. Since I had immediately shut down the engine when hearing the noise there was no overheating. I limped the rest of the way home on one engine, only about 3 miles. After getting tied up I saw that the hose which attached to the heat exchanger had paint caked on the inside. Here's a lesson, if you have your heat exchangers re-worked clean the paint off the fittings where the hoses go!
Anyway, I cleaned the mess re-attached the hose and began filling with new coolant. when nearly done I noticed some dripping noises. It was the water pump! Lucky find I guess since I was still at the dock.
Oh well at least now I'm back home and can fix at my own pace.
btw, the pump in the Worst Marine catalog was $130. I ordered mine from ebasicpower.com for $85 plus the small connector hose, total just over $100 (free shipping and no sales tax).
The warm weather here on the Chesapeake has it feeling like boating season! Can't wait.
