Oh enough with the chicken little already. Most everything Peter said is true; but there are some things that need to be considered. First and foremost the folks in the Midwest have been burning E10 for 20 years or more. Aluminum parts can be a problem. E10 will not rot your steel auto fuel tank. If it did the auto manufactures would need special tank for the Midwest!! I believe most of the problems you folks saw in CT and the Island was from the crud in your tanks and the delivery supply chain. Some fiberglass tanks will be compromised by E10. Some have developed leaks from just straight gasoline over the years. Yea right my 3208Cat can burn E95? Don't think so. Maybe B95 and I say bring that on or at least B10. Diesels don't run on gin. Ethanol is here to stay. Stainless tanks would be great. The problem is the guy doing the welding has to be a true expert. SS is tough to weld and have the welds and the metal next to the welds last. Maybe we can go back to steel tanks coated with a high quality 21 century polymer so it will last more than a couple of years in the saltwater bilge of our beloved Bertrams.
I was talking to one of my Midwest farmer friends this week. He said lots of folks are using corn to heat their homes and farm buildings. It seems corn is so cheap that they are using corn burning stoves. They simply fill their grain bin with corn and put a small auger to supply the "corn stove". They stay warm, house smells like popcorn, no ash to speak of, and they are getting value out of their corn. Sugar cane makes better ethanol you don'y need to add lots of sugar to the mash. Guess the boat will be running on rum not gin.
