One big factor is getting the tank inside clean enough that an epoxy or v-ester coat would stick.
There will be some penetration of fuel even into a few mils of the glass which will be hard to clean out to get 100% adhesion coverage.
Otherwise its for naught.

I suppose if you washed out the tank, sanded and laid a layer or two of biaxle with epoxy, even if it didn't stick in a place or two, you would have a solid glass enclosure sealing off the old tank.

But by the time you paid for materials and what ever labor time you had in it, that stainless tank of Gerry's looks pretty good, and cheap.
