I did extensive testing in the lab several years ago on three alcohols - methanol, ethanol, and Isopropyl (IPA - or rubbing alcohol). Methanol combines with water and phase separates, the other two help water to mix with gasoline and burn through the carb. I have pictures to back up the varios mixtures.
